Chapter participates in a Regional effort to promote Voter participation on Sept. 17th

Greenville, South Carolina - The September 17, 2016 Chapter meeting took place at the The Salvation Army Ray & Joan Kroc Corps Community Center on 424 Westfield St, Greenville, SC 29601 at 9:00 am. During and after the meeting, Brothers hosted "A Votless People Is A Hopless People Voter Registration/Education Drive. Brothers used the materials and online tools to help public Check their voting status and update the voter registration informaiton, if needed.

GGL is a part of larger regional effort to promote Voter Education and Registration. Chapters acrossthe southern region all conducted events on the same day to make their local community of the options and tools available to check their voting status.

"A Voteless People is a Hopeless People" (aka VPHP) was initiated as a National Program of Alpha during the 1930's when many African-Americans had the right to vote but were prevented from voting because of poll taxes, threats of reprisal, and lack of education about the voting process. Voter education and registration have remained a dominant focus of this outreach activity for over 65 years. In the 1990's, the focus has shifted to include political awareness and empowerment, delivered most frequently through town meetings and candidate forums.
