FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
GGL is sponsoring annual
R.W Anderson Tournament on April 25
The Chapter is holding the event to raising funding for local scholarships

Greenville, SC, March 16, 2009 – The Gamma Gamma Lambda chapter of Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Inc. is asking for your support as we embark upon our 2009 R.W. Anderson Golf Tournament. On Saturday, April 25, 2009 we will host the "RW Anderson Golf Tournament” at Verdae Greens Golf Club at Embassy Suites in Greenville, South Carolina.

Through our MLK programs, we have provided scholarships to Upstate high school graduates, given awards to Upstate youth for their academic achievements and served as a liaison between students and college representatives. This year we are interested in partnering with your organization as we host this event to continue to raise funds for our Scholarship and community and Community Service endeavors.

Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity Inc., the first intercollegiate Greek-letter fraternity established for African-Americans, was founded at Cornell University in Ithaca, New York on December 4, 1906. The Gamma Gamma Lambda Chapter was chartered on August 24, 1941 in Greenville, South Carolina under the Umbrella of the National Organization and the first African-American Greek-Letter Alumni Chapter in the Upstate of South Carolina.

Dr. Robert W. Anderson was a graduate of South Carolina State College (University), and North Carolina Central College (University) School of Law. He did further study at Cornell University, the University of North Carolina, St. Louis University, and Atlanta University. He served as the first African-American Farm Agent for Greenville County and the first African-American Director of The Community Action Program in Greenville, now known as S.H.A.R.E. He was co-founder, Charter Member, and first President of Gamma Gamma Lambda Chapter of Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Inc. While serving as president Dr. Anderson was instrumental in providing the upstate with many cultural, civic, and educational affairs, to include but not limited to presenting Greenville County to the world renowned Opera singer Marian Anderson.

"It is with these accomplishments and Dr. Anderson’s desire to enhance the lives and well being of all the citizens of Greenville County, we the members of Gamma Gamma Lambda Chapter dedicate this Golf Tournament"says Mike Chatman, 2009 Golf Tournament Chairman, "This will be a first class golf event, but we need your support to make it happen".
