LUKE H. CHATMAN SCHOLARSHIP
2006 Scholarship packet now available

GREENVILLE, SC: The Gamma Gamma Lambda Chapter of Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity Inc. released on December 30, 2005, the 2006 Luke H. Chatman Memorial Scholarship application packet, which includes the scholarship application, recommendation forms and instruction sheet.

The chapter will be awarding the Luke H. Chatman Memorial Scholarship to deserving high school seniors starting College begining in the upcoming Fall and Spring terms (2006-07). The deadline for submitting the packet is April 1, 2006. This year, the scholarship is targeted to African-Americans (Males preferred).

The scholarship is based on the whole person concept, which encompasses academic achievement, leadership, citizenship, athletics and service to the community. Also, an applicant's financial need will be considered in the selection of the scholarships. The scholarship application requires two letters of reference from the community. If one or both of the reference is a brother of Alpha Phi Alpha, the application will receive preference in the selection process.

Last year, the chapter awarded one $3,000.00 scholarship for the 2005-06 school year, and we are expecting to announce a similar award for this year. Currently we have three scholarship in being fund at various colleges. You can view previous winners on the Chapter's Web site, www.gglapa.org.

Any questions regarding the scholarship should be directed to Willie Sullivan, Scholarship Committee Chairman, via email message at mspink514@charter.net.
