GGL Attends Kickoff for
Annual WalkAmerica Campaign

Columbia, SC: Gamma Gamma Lambda Chapter of Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity joins with other South Carolina Alpha Chapters to kickoff our annual fundraising effort for WalkAmerica. This marks the sixth year Gamma Gamma Lambda has participated in the effort in Greenville. Last year, GGL raised more than $1300, the most funds raised by an Alpha Chapter for WalkAmerica in South Carolina. This year's Team Captain, Rudy Simmons has laid out a plan to exceed that amount this year.. "Our goal is to raise $5000" for WalkAmerica and to double our number of walkers this year" , says Bro. Simmons.

GGL membership was in attendance at the March of Dimes Kickoff Event hosted at Allen University in Columbia, SC. The event was co-hosted by state leaders of Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Inc. and Zeta Phi Beta Sorority, Inc.. WalkAmerica (www.walkamerica.org) is held at variety of times across South Carolina. Greenville's WalkAmerica will be held at Greenville Technical College on April 24 at 9:00 AM.

Both Greek organizations have National Partnerships with the March of Dimes. Zeta Phi Beta conducts a program called "Stroke's Nest" which seeks to informs minority women about proper prenaternal care and Alpha Phi Alpha conducts Project Alpha, an effort to teach minority males about being sexually responsible.

Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Inc., is the nation's first African-American Greek-letter fraternity established by college students. Established on December 4, 1906 on the campus of Cornell University, Alpha Phi Alpha has more than 750 chapters worldwide with over 125,000 members. Gamma Gamma Lambda Chapter is the Greenville chapter of Alpha Phi Alpha established in 1941.
