FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
PROJECT ALPHA 2002 GREENVILLE ,SC September 23, 2002 – Greenville, South Carolina is one of more than 500 sites across the country taking part in Project Alpha, a program sponsored by Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Inc., and the March of Dimes to prevent teenage pregnancy. As a part of Project Alpha Week, the upstate chapters in Greenville, Spartanburg, Anderson, and Clemson will work with local 12 to 17-year old boys to help them better understand their role in responsible sexual behavior. Since 1980, Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity and the March of Dimes have been sponsoring Project Alpha to help young men make positive choices about sexual behavior and their responsibilities. The project began as a local effort in Chicago, Ill. By the Iota Delta Lambda Chapter of Alpha Phi Alpha and has now expanded into a national effort implemented in each of the fraternity's local chapters. Experts in health education and law lead the Project Alpha Workshops, which are based on sharing knowledge about issues of sexuality, changing attitudes about sexual behavior and providing participants with a sense of empowerment and self-esteem that encourages them to ask questions and have frank discussions. The workshop will take place on Saturday, October 26, 2002 from 9:00 am until 2:00 pm at the Happy Hearts Community Center, 315 Loop Street (New Washington Heights Community). For further information, please contact Don R. Weston at dweston1@charter.net or by calling the Happy Hearts Community Center at (864) 233-3075. Alpha Phi Alpha is the oldest Black Greek-lettered organization forming in 1906 at Cornell University in Ithaca, N.Y. The fraternity's motto is "Manly Deeds, Scholarship and Love for All Mankind." Project Alpha is part of the fraternity's national program. ### Download Project Alpha Parental Consent Form (PDF Format) Download Project Alpha Seminar
