GGL receives "Men of Year" Award from S.A.V.E. Gala

Greenville, South Carolina - Gamma Gamma Lambda was proud to be honored as the "Men of Year" at the S.A.V.E. Gala held on Saturday, October 21, 2017.

GGL Brothers Furman Jackson, Don R. Weston, James Morris, Kevin Branch, Rich Hagins, Mike Chatman, Calvert Drummond, and Bobby Clark attended the Fundraising Effort held by S.A.V.E. (Standing Against Violence Everyday) organization which seeks to help women and men escape the terror of domestic violence. The S.A.V.E. organization is led by Ms. Bajeyah W. Eaddy, CEO of the group and recent MLK Community Citzenship Award Winner.

The 5th Annual Fundraising Gala was held at the Embassy Suites Hotel in Greenville, South Carolina and was attended by 200 people. The Gala highlighted the plight of battered women and men and the alarming rate of abuse in South Carolina and Greenville, which leds the state in abuse cases this year. Keynote speaker, Kimberly Champan, spoke the personal issues with a being battered woman and how few resources are available to help familes in this siutation.

GGL was saluated for its efforts to address this issue from the male prespective with its efforts through the Alpha Greenville Foundation (www.alphagreenville.org) especially with programs like Project Alpha which address sexual responsbility and respect for women to young males in an annual seminar held at the Kroger Center in Greenville, South Carolina.

March of Dimes and Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Inc. have a national partnership for more than 30 years. The supported event, called Project Alpha, is a day-long seminar which illustrates to give young males, especially African-American males, the importance of being sexual responsible. Gamma Gamma Lambda has conducted a Project Alpha Seminar for last twenty years.
