On the quaint and serene
campus of Furman University, the Brothers of the SC District
gathered for their annual
leadership retreat and board of directors meeting on
Friday, September 12th and Saturday, September 13th.
The Leadership Retreat is an annual District-wide event
bring the thirty-nine chapters of South Carolina District
to together in start the new Fraternal Year on great
note. Previously the District Board marks its first meeting
of the Fall semester with several new brothers and new
initiatives.
Over 100 College and Alumni Brothers assembled at the
North Village Complex on Furman’s campus to discuss
2008-2009 goals and objectives for the district, hear
updates on new National, Regional, and district issues
and policies, as well as fellowship. Gamma Gamma Lambda along with Pi Alpha hosted this event
as they showcased the best of what the Upstate has to
offer to our fellow Alpha Brothers from across the State.
As part of Gamma Gamma Lambda’s efforts to increase
the visibility of African-Americans, more importantly,
African-American Males on the campus of Furman, the gathering
of over 100 Alpha Men made a powerful statement in that
effort.
Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Inc., is the nation's first
Greek-letter fraternity established by African-American
college students. Established on December 4, 1906 on
the campus of Cornell University, Alpha Phi Alpha are
more than 750 chapters worldwide with over 100,000 members.
Gamma Gamma Lambda Chapter is the local chapter of Alpha
Phi Alpha in Greenville established in 1941.
