GGL leads local chapters to host
State-wide Conference in October

Gamma Gamma Lambda will be the lead chapter hosting the South Carolina District Conference on October 7-9, 2010 at the Embassy Suites in Greenville, SC. The annual conference brings thirty-two College and Alumni chapters from across the state to participate in competitions, symposiums, business sessions, and fellowship events for the upcoming year. The Conference's Theme is "Honoring our Legacy, While Embracing our Future".

This year is the celebration of the 50th year of Alpha Phi Alpha in South Carolina which began with Greenville-native Bro. Luke H. Chatman, as the first SC State Director of Alpha. District and Local Leadership are planning a weekend of fellowship and celebration along with the Business of Alpha.

"This year is very special", says Bobby Clark, Chairman of the Local Planning Committee, which includes chapters from Clemson, Anderson, Spartanburg, and Rock Hill. "We want this conference to be a Grand Celebration of the history and the dedicated brothers who made this district so successful, plus we plan to emphasize the brotherhood and fellowship we have in this District". This year conference will include a welcome reception, a slate of ladies activities, a Golf Outing, and Conference-ending Gala event where winners of district competitions will be announced.

This conference is expected to have more than 150 delegates with their families in attendance and there will be several public events on Friday and Saturday. There will also be activities for Brothers and their spouses to see Greenville and experience Upstate. Here is a tentative schedule of the public events scheduled for the Conference Weekend.

Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Inc., the first intercollegiate Greek-letter fraternity established for African-Americans, was founded at Cornell University in Ithaca, New York. The Fraternity initially served as a study and support group for minority students who faced racial prejudice – educationally and socially – at Cornell. The founders and early leaders of the Fraternity succeeded in laying a firm foundation for Alpha Phi Alpha's principles of scholarship, fellowship, good character, and the uplifting of humanity. Gamma Gamma Lambda is the Greenville Chapter established in 1941.
