GGL Announces 2004 LHC Scholarship

GREENVILLE, SC: The Gamma Gamma Lambda Chapter of Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity Inc. awards the Luke H. Chatman Memorial Scholarship to deserving high school seniors.

The Chapter is releasing on November 22, 2003 the 2003 Luke H. Chatman Memorial Scholarship application packet, which includes the scholarship application, recommendation forms and instruction sheet. The deadline for submitting the packet is April 1, 2004.

These scholarships are based on the whole person concept, which encompasses academic achievement, leadership, citizenship, athletics and service to the community. Also, an applicant's financial need will be considered in the selection of the scholarships. As started last year, the scholarship application requires two letters of reference from the community. If one or both of the reference is a brother of Alpha Phi Alpha, the application will receive preference in the selection process.

Last year, the chapter awarded one $3,000.00 scholarships for the 2002-03 school year.This year chapter will announce the scholarship on February 15, 2004 after the 2004 MLK Banquet.

This new direction is new effort to encourage throughout their college career. Funding for the scholarship collect from the proceeds of the the MLK Commemorative Scholarship Banquet. This year's banquet will be held January 19, 2004.
