planned for Southside High School

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
November 12, 2002

The Greenville Chapter of Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Inc will conduct its 24th annual MLK Youth Program and College Fair at Southside High School on January 18, 2003 at 10 AM. The Youth program, along with the annual MLK Banquet held on January 20, is an annual part of the chapter's Martin Luther King celebration.

The MLK Youth program seeks to honor deserving high school students who have excelled in five areas: Academics, Art, Athletics, Music, and Leadership. School's administrators and teachers nominated students from their local school. Last year, seventy-five students were recognized with certificates from the fourteen Greenville County High Schools and Academies. The Youth Program will begin at 10 AM. Students receiving awards should be ready to assemble at 9:20 AM.

Following the program, the MLK College Fair will be conducted with admission representatives from local colleges and universities available to answer questions during the sessions. As last year, the fair will include two panel sessions, "What You Need to Know about Financial Aid" and "What to Expect in Your First Year of College".

"What to Expect in Your First Year of College" will include a panel of current students and parents of students from local colleges and universities who will give their perspective on what it was like during their first year of college. "What You Need to Know about Financial Aid" will have a panel of financial aid representatives from area colleges and universities who will answer some common questions about the financial aid process and South Carolina. Each session will last about 45 minutes, the first session beginning held after the Youth Program at 11:15 AM and the second session at 12:15 PM.
