PROJECT ALPHA 2003
ALPHA PHI ALPHA HOPES TO REPEAT SUCCESS WITH TEEN PREGNANCY PREVENTION PROGRAM

Greenville, SC, September 11, 2003 – Greenville, South Carolina is one of more than 500 sites across the country taking part in Project Alpha, a program sponsored by Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Inc., and the March of Dimes to prevent teenage pregnancy. As a part of Project Alpha Week, the upstate chapters in Greenville, Spartanburg, Anderson, and Clemson will work with local 12 to 17-year old boys to help them better understand their role in responsible sexual behavior.

Since 1980, Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity and the March of Dimes have been sponsoring Project Alpha to help young men make positive choices about sexual behavior and their responsibilities. The project began as a local effort in Chicago, Ill. By the Iota Delta Lambda Chapter of Alpha Phi Alpha and has now expanded into a national effort implemented in each of the fraternity's local chapters. Experts in health education and law lead the Project Alpha Workshops, which are based on sharing knowledge about issues of sexuality, changing attitudes about sexual behavior and providing participants with a sense of empowerment and self-esteem that encourages them to ask questions and have frank discussions.

The workshop will take place on Saturday, October 18, 2003 from 9:00 am until 2:00 pm at the Central Community Ministries (Old Central Baptist Church building). For further information, please contact Don R. Weston at (864) 968-0776 or send email message to dweston1@charter.net.
