In loving Memory of Bro. Samuel Ralph Martin, Sr.
1914-2003


Greenville, SC, September 19, 2003 – Bro. Samuel Ralph Martin, Sr. of 297 Goodwin Bridge Road, Travelers Rest, South Carolina departed this earthly life on September 14, 2003. Born Greenville Country, he was the son of the late Rev. W.R. Martin and Geneva Hill Martin.

At an early age he become a member of Springfield Baptist Church and later a faithful member of John Wesley United Methodist Church where he served in many capacities for over 30 years. A graduate of Sterling High School and Benedict College, he served as a Counselor of the Office of Economical Opportunity and a Social Counselor for the Greenville County School System.

He leaves to cherish his memories a devoted wife, Rosa Martin of the home; one son, Samuel Ralph Martin, Jr; two grandchildren, Samuel, III, and Nicole martin all of Atlanta, Georgia, one brother, Sylvester Martin of Greenville, South Carolina; one sister, Margaret Martin of Oakland California, a special niece, Brenda Martin Mitchell of Atlanta, Georgia and a host of devoted niece, nephews other relatives and friends.

Addition to his long service in his church and other civic groups, Bro. Martin was initiated in Gamma Gamma Lambda Chapter of Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity in 1965 and served in many positions in the chapter including Vice President of the Chapter. Bro. Martin was instrumental in organizing the first Martin Luther King Commemorative Service in Greenville and led the first Martin Luther King Parade coordinated by the chapter.

Funeral Services were held at John Wesley United Methodist Church of 101 East Court Street on September 19, 2003. Dr. Norman A. Brown, Pastor, officiated the service.
